Moonstone's characteristic luminous effect, called adularescence, is due to the interference of light on the thin layers of feldspar stacked in the stone. Its white or cream color is natural, sometimes tinted by traces of aluminum or potassium.

A little history

Moonstone was sacred in ancient India, where it was given as a wedding gift to bring luck and fertility. The Romans believed it was formed from the solidified rays of the Moon. In Europe, it was very popular during the Art Nouveau period, notably thanks to jeweller René Lalique, who incorporated it into numerous creations. Its virtues have always included clairvoyance, femininity and a link between the visible and invisible worlds.
