AFRICAN TURQUOISE

Often confused with genuine turquoise, the African turquoise is actually a variety of jasper rich in inclusions of minerals such as iron and chrysocolla, giving it green, bluish hues, sometimes speckled with brown or black. The bluish-green color of African Turquoise is due to the natural presence of iron, copper and sometimes chrysocolla in its composition. It is not turquoise in the gemological sense, but a jasper whose hue and patterns are visually reminiscent of turquoise.

A little history

Although a recent arrival on the Western market (popularized at the beginning of the 21st century), African Turquoise has long been used as a decorative and protective stone in certain southern African cultures.
