WORKSHOP NOTEBOOK
At Solenn, the quality and durability of our creations are at the heart of our concerns. That's why we choose to use only Gold Filled to enhance our jewelry. But what exactly is Gold Filled? Why is it such an appropriate choice for jewelry you'll cherish for years to come? Let's delve into the fascinating world of this precious material.
A Precious Alloy, a Significant Thickness of Gold
Unlike gold plating, where a layer of gold just a few microns thick (one micron equals one thousandth of a millimeter) is delicately electroplated onto a base metal, Gold Filled involves a considerably larger quantity of gold. This high-quality process consists of mechanically bonding a a generous layer of solid gold, representing at least 5% of the jewel's total weight (i.e. 1/20th)to a sturdy core of brass or other base metal.
Imagine a two-layer structure in which solid gold forms a substantial layer, often 50 to 100 times thicker than that of conventional gold plating. This fusion, carried out under intense pressure and high temperature, creates a homogeneous alloy of exceptional strength. It is this significant thickness of gold that fundamentally distinguishes Gold Filled from simple plating, giving it incomparable durability and quality.
The indisputable advantages of Gold Filled
Solenn's choice of Gold Filled is no accident. This material offers a multitude of advantages:
- Exceptional durability
- Quality and Appearance of Solid Gold
- Hypoallergenic
- Excellent value for money
- Environmentally friendly

How to care for your Solenn Gold Filled jewelry
Although Gold Filled is very durable, a few simple precautions will help you preserve their beauty for years to come:
- Avoid contact with aggressive chemicals: Perfumes, lotions and cleaning products can eventually alter the shine of gold. It's best to put on your jewelry after applying these products.
- Remove your jewelry before swimming or playing sports: Chlorinated water, salt water and excessive perspiration can tarnish gold over time.
- Gently clean your jewelry: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe your jewelry after you've worn it. For a more thorough cleaning, you can use lukewarm soapy water and a soft cloth, making sure to dry them well afterwards.
- Store your jewelry with care: Store your Solenn jewelry in a dry place, away from humidity and direct sunlight, ideally in its original case or in a lined jewelry box. Avoid storing them with other jewelry that could scratch them.
